内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The purpose of this study was to clarify the differences in interest concerning dietary habits and nutrition between junior high school students who participate in sports and those who do not. We also investigated their parents’ views on this aspect. Using a self-questionnaire for this purpose, we obtained responses from 165 students( 85 males and 80 females) and 101 parents. 86.1% of the responding students participated in sports more than twice a week. The consumption rate of 3 meals a day was significantly higher in students who participated in sports than in those who did not( p<0.05). Awareness of dietary habits was also higher in the former group. Regular eating habits were recognized by students as a requirement for enhancing their sporting prowess, augmented by dietary advice from coaching staff in extracurricular activities. The families showed no differences in the interest in the actual nutrition, regardless of students participating in sports. However, the parents of students participating in sports did pay attention to factors such as regularity of meals, calcium intake, and rehydration. Thus, it was concluded that the awareness of dietary habits was higher in the families of students participating in sports. These results suggest that extracurricular activities can play an equally important role as regular school activities in facilitating food and nutrition education for students.
