The purpose of this paper is to clarify the reasons of running for school principal under this system. This was achieved by analyzing the interview data collected in 2014 and 2017 in the state of Paraná, from seven school principals, who were recruited by the direct election system.  The results from this analysis shows that there is a strong tendency for candidates to be incumbent principals and deputy principals. The reason for this is pointed out that as a prerequisite for running for the principal direct election, the incumbent principal gained the trust from school staff and parents through the working time at school, so he/she was requested by them to be a candidate, or had confidence, vision, enthusiasm for school management.  From these facts, it is concluded that direct principal elections in the state of Paraná are functioning so as to be able to select personnel supported by schools, with the qualities of effectively managing the school.}, pages = {21--33}, title = {校長直接選挙への立候補理由─パナラ州の校長の語りからの分析─}, year = {2019}, yomi = {タムラ, ノリコ} }
