Special activities include ceremonies, field days, performances, excursions and autonomy from the Meiji era. After 1947, the guidelines for the course of study was formed, with special activities put in the curriculum. The feature of special activities were to be carried out through group activities such as class activities, whole school activities and club activities. This feature promoted students’ individualization, socialization and career development. These special activities also provided pleasure to the students.
