The purpose of this paper is to( 1) defi ne the fi eld of sport business management as an academic discipline and as a practical fi eld, (2) explain the link between the sport industry and sport management education specifi cally at the university level,( 3) provide a deeper understanding of the unique aspect of sport business management in relation to sport study that includes sport philosophy, history, and sociology, and (4) identify the current roles of sport business management based on Chalip’s (2006) six managerial topics in contemporary society. This study builds a conceptual foundation based on previous research in divergent disciplines that are helpful for addressing some new insights and challenges in the field of sport business management.
