According to the Research Question（RQ）,“What is the meaning of rivalry among former top athletes?”, data was collected using one-on-one and one-on-two semi-structured interviews. Based on the results of the discourse analysis, the suggestions were as follows：（1）the relationship between the rivals was narrated based on their dependence on each other；（2）the recognition of a rival was based not only on their interactions but also on one-side cognition；（3）psychological distancing themselves brings about the improvement of self；and（4）the relationship evolved from competing with each other to supporting each other.
