 note = {Using the qualitative research method and discourse analysis, the purpose of this study was to identify the meaning of rivalry among former top athletes. According to the Research Question（RQ）,“What is the meaning of rivalry among former top athletes?”, data was collected using one-on-one and one-on-two semi-structured interviews. Based on the results of the discourse analysis, the suggestions were as follows：（1）the relationship between the rivals was narrated based on their dependence on each other；（2）the recognition of a rival was based not only on their interactions but also on one-side cognition；（3）psychological distancing themselves brings about the improvement of self；and（4）the relationship evolved from competing with each other to supporting each other. These were hypothetical ideas which recognize the psychological relationship among rivals.},
