Although useful knowledge has been accumulated\nthrough head-injury research, it has not been used as a direct countermeasure to prevent head\ninjuries. Therefore, it is important to propose concrete measures to prevent head trauma\nimmediately, especially practical research on preventing head trauma in Osoto-gari. This study\naimed to examine an alternative to Osoto-otoshi to prevent head injuries in judo classes.\nExperienced university male judo players (27 students) answered a questionnaire after being\nexposed to Osoto-gari and Osoto-otoshi. Consequently, the following were found.\n1.“ Which technique do you think is more secure, the Osoto-gari or the Osoto-otoshi?”; the\npercentage of those who answered “Osoto-otoshi ” was significantly higher (59.3%) than that\nof those who answered“ Osoto-gari” (p < 0.01).\n2.“ Which do you think is safer, the Osoto-gari or the Osoto-otoshi?”; the percentage of\nrespondents (81.5%) who answered“ Osoto-otoshi” was significantly higher (p < 0.01).\n3.“ Which technique do you think hurts more when ukemi is applied, Osoto-gari or Osotootoshi?”;\nthe percentage of respondents who answered “Osoto-gari ” was significantly higher\n(70.4%) than that of those who answered“ Osoto-otoshi” (p < 0.01).\n4.“ Which technique do you think has a higher risk of head injury, Osoto-gari or Osoto-otoshi?”;\nthe percentage of respondents (66.7%) who answered “Osoto-gari ” was significantly higher\n(p < 0.01).\n5.“ Which technique do you think is better for beginners to learn in judo classes in junior high\nschools, high schools, and universities, Osoto-gari or Osoto-otoshi?”; the percentage of\nrespondents (85.2%) who answered“ Osoto-otoshi” was significantly higher (p < 0.01).\n　The results suggest that to maximally reduce the risk of head injury caused by Osoto-gari in\njudo classes at junior high schools, high schools, and universities, it is useful to have students\nlearn Osoto-otoshi as proposed in this study, instead of
